Carole Anne Meehan, Curator, at the ICA, Boston chose 78 works from 644 pieces of art submitted by 309 artists. As a way to celebrate the artistic talents of so many of our members, the Danforth staff has also selected almost 90 additional works that will be shown concurrently in the Community of Artists exhibition.

Works by participating member artists were available for purchase through the museum’s first Off the Wall online auction. The Danforth Museum of Art Online Auction ran from June 1 to June 22, 2008, and has now closed. Proceeds benefited exhibiting artists and the Danforth Museum of Art.

Carole Anne Meehan, Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, juried jury this exhibition in May, and has awarded first, second, third and honorable mention prizes.

About Carole Anne Meehan
Carole Anne Meehan is Curator at The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, where she is currently developing an exhibition with the artist Krzysztof Wodiczko and a new presentation of works in the ICA Collection. In March 1998 she joined the ICA’s staff as the first director of ICA/Vita Brevis, a program that commissioned artists to create new, temporary works of public art in response to Boston’s landscape and history. Through this effort twenty-six new works of art were presented in a range of public sites, including four in 2007’s Art on the Harbor Islands, which has been selected for an award by the International Association of Art Critics. Meehan also directs the James and Audrey Foster Prize exhibition and award program for Boston area artists of exceptional artistic promise. In partnership with the National Park Service, Meehan developed and launched ICA Artists-in-Residence at Boston National Historical Park, a unique commissioning program that merged contemporary expression with historical content. This program presented six projects between 2000 and 2005. In 2004 Meehan co-edited with ICA Director Jill Medvedow, a volume entitled Vita Brevis / History, Landscape and Art 1998-2003, published by Steidl, Germany. From 1992 to 1997 Meehan directed visual arts exhibitions and projects at the Boston Center for the Arts, and project-managed permanent works of public art from 1988-1990 for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
