Nationally recognized as a master realist, Nick's work has been termed "existential realism” and reflects his appetite for experimentation. His subject matter includes images of automobiles, landscapes, portraits, still lifes, urban vistas, and industrial sites. “I'm always reaching out for left-field ideas and approaches, trying to understand what I can do and what I can't do,” says Nick. Though they have been described as colloquial, Nick’s subjects aim to represent the everyday world around us, which often goes unnoticed-living rooms, luxury storefronts, suburban porches. Working from life, he often returns to the same location over a period of days to study the light as it transforms his subject. Nick's work is included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Hirschhorn Museum; and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., among many others.
