Winter 2009 Programs

Portfoilo class at the Danforth Museum School - Summer 2007

PRE-COLLEGE PORTFOLIO classes are for upper level high school students who are considering applying to art school and are developing their 2-D portfolios.  All Portfolio classes are taught by local college art instructors.

TEEN classes are for students ages 13 and up who want to explore art concepts, materials and techniques in a creative art school environment.

Classes for Upper Level High School Students

Saturday Drawing and Painting Workshops

Portfolio students are invited to take part in the series of Saturday workshops for adults and portfolio students.  Taught by artist Bob Collins, who also teaches at Rhode Island College and at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, these workshops are an excellent way to improve drawing and painting technique, and to build portfolios for college entrance. Each workshop is 2 or 3 sessions, and students are responsible to bring their own supplies. Supply lists will be provided.

Teen

Classes for all High School students

PAINTING for High School Students

Working mainly from direct observation, students will explore concepts of color, form, light, and composition while learning about the unique qualities of acrylics or oils.  Taught by artist Bob Collins, who also teaches at Rhode Island College and at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, students will learn basic skills and techniques needed to create strong works for portfolios. A supply list will be provided.  Tuition includes 2 sessions with a clothed model.

Graffiti Art and Design

For high school students.  Work with local graffiti artist Ryan Mehigan to explore formal elements and principles of art and design while looking at trends and innovations of graffiti and street art. Students will develop understanding of lettering, graffiti art production, making stencils and logo design. Ryan Mehigan has won the 3rd Eye Open, (graffiti competition based in New Bedford, MA) for the last two years.
